Cloud Computing - Without Borders
With great interest we read the many articles on cloud computing and the promising solutions to the challenges of
on-premises installation of enterprise applications. The increasing interest in software as a service (SaaS) as a way to
control some information technology costs is evident in initiatives led by IBM, Salesforce.com, Google, and Microsoft to
name a few. Here at NetDocuments we are enjoying our ten year anniversary in 2008 with a growing customer base, many of whom have benefited greatly from the reliable, hassle-free, globally accessible, and cost reduction of this model. Read the following recent quotes on the subject: "The world is changing to enterprises without borders, unbounded IT infrastructure, and huge data sets, and a need for collaboration that increasingly crosses many organizational and sourcing types," said IBM Vice President for Enterprise Systems Rich Lechner. "Cloud computing allows an unbounded aspiration of the best user experiences. It provides anytime, anywhere access to IT resources deliver(ed) dynamically as a service," he said. "Cloud computing expands capacity almost indefinitely." |

Gartner Defines Cloud Computing
"Cloud computing heralds an evolution of business that is no less influential than e-business," according to Gartner Inc.Gartner defines cloud computing "as a style of computing where massively scalable IT-related capabilities are provided "as a service" using Internet technologies to multiple external customers." "Cloud computing is emerging at the convergence of three major trends—service orientation, virtualization and standardization of computing through the internet." |

NetDocuments - Case Study of High Standards
"NetDocuments SaaS service reliability has reached a remarkable level of 100% uptime for the past two plus years. It is
true that every quarter NetDocuments may schedule a 4-hour service maintenance window on a Saturday night (Eastern Time Zone),
always pre-announced several weeks in advance. It is also true that software upgrades planned roughly every other month
represent no service down-time, even for those users who happen to be logged in during the very hour when the upgrade happens.Other popular SaaS providers such as Google Apps and Microsoft Hotmail have not been so fortunate. It begs the question as to why NetDocuments has been so reliable. It is because there is an integrated approach to continuous uptime which encompasses software development, release procedures, infrastructure architecture, and datacenter management. It takes several years of continuous effort and experience to fine tune a highly available business-class SaaS service. While there can't be any guarantees on future up time, NetDocuments is fully committed to continue to refine its service and procedures to maintain this high standard of availability." - Alvin Tedjamulia - CTO, NetDocuments August 2008 |

Why People Want Cloud Computing
We conducted a survey of our sales and support reps to summarize the compelling interests NetDocuments is offering new
customers—particularly small business. Here is the list:Getting a Virtual Office: NetDocuments gives small businesses a "place to start" when it comes to getting a virtual office. They can start small by adding a few folders and documents and grow incrementally or they can give the full 100% and use our import tools to get everything in at once. Either way NetDocuments gives them the tools, flexibility and confidence to turn their regular office into a "virtual office." Access to Documents: The small business world before NetDocuments is a world of attaching documents to emails. When they learn that with NetDocuments they can have documents in one central place and work on those documents via the web without having to attach and send documents after they make changes they are SOLD! Sharing with Clients / Staying on the Cutting Edge: When businesses use NetDocuments to share with their clients it shows that they are on the "cutting edge" of technology. Clients can get secure credentials to see documents that they need. Furthermore, you can restrict the access to these documents down to "view only" which means that they can't change the original document that you share with them. So even though the company is small their method for sharing documents is very "professional looking" and makes them seem all the more mature as a company. Security: We are always asked, "Are my documents secure online?" With our secure data centers, encryption and other business continuity features small businesses can sleep well at night knowing that their documents are safe. Breaking the Bonds of Hardware: Even though small businesses don't have to deal with a lot of hardware with NetDocuments it is "one thing less they have to worry about." In the small business world they "wear a lot of hats" and being an IT guy is not one they need. Getting what the "Big Boys" Have: With NetDocuments even the smallest companies have access to the same technology as the larger companies with ten times bigger budgets. When a small company uses NetDocuments they are using the same service with all the same tools, features and functionality as the "big boys." Salesforce CRM Integration: Right now Salesforce is all the rage and small businesses are quickly catching on. Customers quickly realize that they are going to need more storage, tools and functionality to manage all of the documents related to their growing list of customers. With one click they can see the entire Salesforce record for a client/customer and all the documents related to them. Availability to Talk with Someone: At NetDocuments the customer has access to a live sales rep during the sales process and a live support rep after the purchase. Moreover, we even give them an hour of free training when they sign up. With NetDocuments they never have to worry about knocking on a door that never opens. We pride ourselves on our customer service and the small business customer is a great beneficiary of that. |
