interoperability program

ndConnect

Your greatest AI advantage isn’t the model. It’s what your team already knows.

Securely connect NetDocuments to your team’s approved AI tools — including Harvey, Legora, Thomson Reuters, Vincent by Clio, Claude, ChatGPT, and Copilot Studio — without compromising governance, permissions, or data security.

Why NDConnect

Your firm’s knowledge, working for you.

ndConnect is NetDocuments’ interoperability program. It gives authorized, approved AI tools secure, governed access to your firm’s content, so AI can do real work grounded in your actual documents.

Access documents from inside any AI tool

Bring NetDocuments content directly into partner applications without downloads, workarounds, or context-switching.

Cloud save icon

Save AI output back to the right place

AI-generated work lands where it belongs: in the correct matter, with full metadata, searchable from day one.

Governance travels with every document

Existing permissions, ethical walls, and DLP rules are enforced at the connection layer. No parallel security model required.

Focus on high-impact legal work

Free your team from manual retrieval and repetitive admin. Let AI handle the groundwork, with your real knowledge behind it.

Two Integration Tiers

Choose the integration that fits your workflow.

ndConnect gives third-party AI tools secure access to NetDocuments content. Whether users select documents manually or let an AI agent retrieve them autonomously, data stays governed and protected.

ndConnect

The standard integration path for all NetDocuments customers. Users log in, select the documents they want to share, and load them directly into any authorized partner application — with full security and governance intact.

How It Works

Connected AI tools run on a NetDocuments foundation.

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is the emerging open standard for connecting AI tools to the systems where real work lives. Through ndConnect, approved AI applications plug into the same knowledge the NetDocuments Assistant already uses – governed by the same rules.

1

AI tools at the surface

Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot Studio agents, and a growing ecosystem connect through MCP – a single, governed channel to your content.

2

NetDocuments-native apps on the same foundation

The NetDocuments Assistant, M365 surfaces, and no-code workflows sit on the same governed layer. Consistent rules, no special treatment.

3

The Legal Context Graph powers every connection

A proprietary knowledge infrastructure that maps relationships across every matter, document, communication, and person, so AI answers with real institutional knowledge, not generic training data.

4

Your data stays yours

Your proprietary documents and data are the foundation. Every AI connection is scoped to the authenticated user. Nothing leaves without your rules allowing it.

Why NetDocuments

The door is open to the AI ecosystem. What powers it is the difference.

1

The industry’s first Legal Context Graph

A proprietary knowledge infrastructure that continuously maps relationships across every matter, document, communication, and person in the firm, giving AI tools real context, not just search results.

2

Governance at the data layer, not the connector

Your existing permissions, ethical walls, and DLP carry through to every AI connection. No reconfiguration. No parallel security model to maintain. It just works.

3

Built to expand with the ecosystem

As new AI tools and agentic workflows emerge, ndConnect makes them available to the firm – with the same controls, through the same governed channel.

4

Built for AI choice

Run purpose-built legal AI, frontier models, or both. NetDocuments stays the consistent, secure foundation as the AI landscape evolves.

The Intelligent DMS

Your documents aren’t just stored. They’re activated.

NetDocuments brings together a cohesive platform of capabilities designed around how lawyers work today and in future.

Embedded AI

Powers summaries, contract review, drafting, and more built into the DMS, not bolted on.

Lock icon

Security-first architecture

Identity-aware permissions that travel with your content everywhere it goes.

Context-rich workflows

Documents, tasks, and AI stay in sync across matters and tools.

ndConnect Enterprise

Agent-ready. Powered by MCP.

With ndConnect Enterprise, AI agents connect directly to your NetDocuments repository through the Model Context Protocol — an open standard for agent-to-data connectivity. No custom integration code. No data leaving your governance perimeter.

Agent-driven document retrieval

Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot Studio agents, and a growing ecosystem connect through MCP — a single, governed channel to your content.

What can my firm actually do with MCP and NetDocuments?

Through MCP, AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot can search NetDocuments, retrieve documents on demand, and ground their responses in real firm content. That turns AI from a generalist assistant into something that reasons over the firm’s own matters, precedents, agreements, and institutional knowledge. Summaries reference the right document. Research pulls from the firm’s history. Drafting starts from real examples. The model becomes useful in a way that generic training data alone cannot match.

What happens to our documents when an AI tool accesses them through MCP?

Documents stay in NetDocuments. When the AI tool needs context, the MCP server delivers the relevant content as text to that tool, scoped to the authenticated user. Nothing is bulk transferred, replicated, or stored in an outside AI data store by NetDocuments. What the AI vendor does with that content after delivery is governed by your firm’s enterprise agreement with that vendor, which is why MCP access is currently limited to Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot, platforms with enterprise grade data handling commitments.

Who controls which AI tools can connect to NetDocuments through MCP?

Administrators do. MCP is opt in at the firm level through Security Center, and access is gated by firm controlled authentication on every call. Existing NetDocuments permissions, ethical walls, and DLP rules apply uniformly to every MCP connection, so the firm’s governance model travels with the content automatically without a parallel security model to maintain. Approved MCP partners today are Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot with more coming soon.

How do users start working with AI tools once MCP is turned on?

Once an administrator enables MCP through Security Center, users sign into Claude, ChatGPT, or Microsoft Copilot and authenticate through their NetDocuments credentials. From there, the AI tool can read the documents and content the user already has access to, no different than the user opening those documents directly. There is no separate workflow to learn, no data migration step, and no second set of permissions to manage.

Will MCP keep working as new AI tools and agentic workflows emerge?

That is the design intent. MCP is an open standard built specifically for connecting AI to enterprise systems. Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot are the MCP compatible platforms approved for NetDocuments today, and the list will grow as additional AI vendors adopt MCP and complete partner review. As workflows shift toward more autonomous agents, firms can adopt new tools through the same governed connection rather than rebuilding the integration layer each time.
