NetDocuments Collaborates with Google Cloud on Launch of Gemini Enterprise for Legal

Jared Beckstead
Senior Product Marketing Manager, AI
AI has already changed how legal work gets done. The real advantage now is context: pairing a great model with an organization’s matter history, precedent, client relationships, and institutional knowledge, all inside a governed repository. Model Context Protocol, or MCP, connects external AI models and tools to that information securely. But access alone isn’t enough. AI needs the legal context to actually understand and apply what it’s looking at.
Starting today, Gemini Enterprise for Legal connects directly to NetDocuments through MCP. No exports. No copying into a separate tool. No data leaving a governed environment. Answers come from an organization’s institutional knowledge instead of generic guesses. It’s one more connection in the growing MCP ecosystem NetDocuments supports, extending the same context the Legal Context Graph and native AI already deliver across the platform.
What Great Context Unlocks
The best legal AI outcomes pair a strong model with strong context. A general prompt produces a plausible draft. Real work product comes from a model grounded in an organization’s actual precedent, a client’s intake form, and the current state of the law reflected in documents already on file.
NetDocuments delivers that context through the industry’s first Legal Context Graph, continuously connecting matter history, prior work product, client relationships, precedent, and governance into one living understanding of an organization’s knowledge. Context built once this way doesn’t need to be rebuilt from scratch every time, and the effort pays off again the next time any AI, or person, needs it. Through MCP, Gemini Enterprise connects directly to that same repository, so it reasons over an organization’s real work product instead of starting from zero.
How It Works for Legal Teams
Whether a legal team starts in Gemini Enterprise or in NetDocuments, the same deep context powers the work. A few examples:
- Grounding agents in the facts that matter — pulling matter background, key party and client information, and full document version history.
- Cross referencing signed agreements against a new regulatory change and flagging which matters are affected.
- Drafting a first pass at a document from the organization’s own precedent instead of a generic template, then adapting it to the current matter
None of this requires the legal team to move documents outside of NetDocuments. Gemini Enterprise works from the repository in place.
AI That Already Lives in NetDocuments
This connection builds on an extensive AI foundation already embedded in the platform through ndMAX: a legal AI assistant, AI search, Tabular Review, 39 purpose-built AI apps in the ndMAX Studio, a no code app builder, automatic document classification, and the Legal Context Graph. MCP extends that same depth of context so legal professionals can work in external tools like Gemini Enterprise and build the best AI tool stack for their organization.
Governance Travels with the MCP Connection
Every interaction through MCP runs under the user’s own NetDocuments credentials. Ethical walls, matter level restrictions, and access controls apply automatically. Compliance controls, including data loss prevention, retention policies, and audit trails, carry through with no extra setup. Admins control the connection with a single toggle. Documents never leave NetDocuments.
Available Today
This connection is available to ndMAX Enterprise customers today, alongside Google Cloud’s broader Gemini Enterprise for Legal launch. It is the latest addition to a growing list of MCP connections NetDocuments supports, with more on the way.
“Legal work demands uncompromising security, strict confidentiality, and precise governance. By connecting NetDocuments directly to Gemini Enterprise for Legal via MCP, we’re enabling legal teams to power AI workflows with their private, matter-level knowledge while ensuring data never leaves their governed perimeter.”
Satish Thomas, Vice President, Google Cloud
