Modernizing a Century-Old Firm with Secure Cloud Innovation
“Mobility and security have truly improved our lawyers’ lives. With NetDocuments, we can access our documents from any device, anywhere, with complete confidence.”
Cristián Baubeau, Technology Director, Marval O’Farrell Mairal
Founded more than 100 years ago, Marval O’Farrell Mairal is one of Argentina’s most prominent law firms. With more than three decades of experience at the firm, Cristián Baubeau has overseen its technological transformation — most recently leading the move from a legacy on-premises system to the NetDocuments cloud platform.
The Challenge: Outdated Technology & Low Adoption
Before adopting NetDocuments, Marval relied on eDOCS, a system that had become obsolete and difficult to maintain.
“It was an old and outdated platform with security issues, and — most importantly — very low user adoption,” Baubeau explained.
Lawyers found it cumbersome and rarely used the system to its full potential. The firm needed a secure, intuitive, and modern solution that would boost adoption and enhance collaboration.
The Solution: A Secure, Cloud-Based Platform
After first learning about NetDocuments nearly a decade ago, Marval made the move to the cloud.
“User adoption was one of our biggest goals, and with NetDocuments we advanced tremendously,” said Baubeau.
Today, the firm uses NetDocuments across key practice areas — particularly litigation and corporate law — and has fully integrated the ndMail email management tool into its daily workflow to manage and store all email communications efficiently.
Results: Mobility, Security, and Collaboration
One of the most transformative changes has been the mobility that NetDocuments enables.
“We now operate in a hybrid work environment. Being able to access documents from any device and any location has been a huge improvement,” Baubeau shared.
“At the same time, the security is exceptional. We can connect from anywhere with complete confidence that our documents are protected.”
Baubeau highlights collaboration and security as the firm’s two most valued features —“intangible assets that make a big difference for us.”
Embracing the Future: AI & Continuous Innovation
Marval is also investing heavily in artificial intelligence. The firm is currently testing more than 10 AI tools and conducting multiple proofs of concept to integrate AI into various practice areas.
“Our strategy is to adopt AI as quickly as possible. We’re testing everything available in the market and implementing it where it makes sense.”
Baubeau emphasizes that NetDocuments constant innovation and industry-leading AI make it an ideal platform for the firm’s future. He also praised the Inspire customer conference for being a great event for making connections and seeing new product launches and upcoming features firsthand.
“I’ve been to two Inspire conferences, and what I value most is the peer conversation — talking directly with other firms using NetDocuments and learning from their experiences. Inspire is where innovation happens. I highly recommend it.”
