When did NetDocuments acquire eDOCS?
On January 12, 2026, NetDocuments completed its acquisition of OpenText’s legal document management solution, eDOCS. NetDocuments eDOCS™ is now a solution in the NetDocuments portfolio. Read the press release >
What does this mean for eDOCS users?
NetDocuments has no plans to end-of-life the eDOCS solution. Current eDOCS users will not be required to transition off their current solution until they are ready. NetDocuments will continue supporting the on-premises eDOCS platform, and expects to for years to come, while offering a high-value upgrade path to NetDocuments when customers choose to modernise to the cloud.
Is eDOCS going to move to the cloud?
eDOCS is an on-premises solution and will remain that way. Customers who want a cloud solution can choose to upgrade to NetDocuments through a purpose-built upgrade path.
Is eDOCS going to continue to be developed?
Yes, the eDOCS software will continue to be enhanced to meet the demands of our on-premises customers. The platform will be maintained and updated to promote continuity and stability for years to come.
What happens to my eDOCS add-ons (InfoCenter, etc.)?
All currently supported eDOCS add-ons — including eDOCS InfoCenter — continue under NetDocuments without interruption. Licensing, configurations, and access remain the same, and the eDOCS team supporting those add-ons is now part of NetDocuments. There are no plans to discontinue any add-on you rely on today.
What about my records management and retention setup?
eDOCS RM continues to be actively developed. Recent releases added functionality for moving records out of closed FileParts and for administering functional security directly through the InfoCenter web interface — with no disruption to your current retention schedules.
Will my third-party integrations still be supported?
Yes. Existing eDOCS integrations (including Kofax/Tungsten, Brava, and Decisiv) continue to be supported. Issues specific to eDOCS are handled by the eDOCS team; issues with the third-party product are handled by that vendor.
Is there still an eDOCS user community?
Yes. We’re organising a successor to the eDOCS user group and will share details as they’re finalised.
Will my invoice or billing process change?
Yes. eDOCS billing transitions to NetDocuments on July 23, 2026. Any outstanding invoices issued before that date remain payable to OpenText per their original terms. For renewals, new contracts, and billing on or after July 23, your invoices will come from NetDocuments — the specific NetDocuments entity, address, and payment details depend on your region and will be sent directly to your billing contact. You can also pay online via the NetDocuments customer billing portal. Contract terms, PO numbers, and renewal dates are unchanged. Send questions to Billing@netdocuments.com.
Are eDOCS users going to be required to migrate to NetDocuments?
No. There is no end of life planned and there is no requirement to migrate. While many customers are already exploring modernisation, NetDocuments will assess readiness individually and help customers build a tailored upgrade path when they are ready. Always at their pace.
What options are available if eDOCS users want to modernise to the cloud?
For organizations ready to modernise now or in the future, NetDocuments offers a proven path for successful upgrades, further enabled by owning and supporting both platforms. This strategic combination allows upgrades to be accelerated with purpose-built migration tools, preserving institutional knowledge and established processes, and delivering a streamlined upgrade experience when customers are ready.
